Today I was spending time with God and started reflecting on service. I started thinking about all the ways that I enjoy serving, and it got me so excited! I love serving with a passion. Over the years, I’ve found the ways that I enjoy serving the best. There are four main ways I enjoy serving, and God gave me an acronym for them. Now anywhere I am, I try to run through my acronym and see if there is anything I can do at the moment.

I’ll let you in on my acronym and then break it down. It is quick and easy to remember, so you can run through it wherever you are. I love it so much and would highly recommend that you consider how you like to serve and ask God for an acronym.

My acronym is DOOR. I love it so much! It is easy to remember, and I am reminded of serving anytime I see a door. We should always be looking for ways to serve as this glorifies God. It can help you grow deeper in your faith, and the Bible talks about the importance of serving all over. Two bible verses that stuck out to me about serving are 1 Corinthians 15:58 and Mark 10:45. 1 Corinthians 15:58 says, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” And a more well-known verse, Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” These two verses show that we should be looking for ways to serve.

Okay, back to the acronym. Now I’ll break it down and share what each letter stands for.

D stands for dishes. I have grown to love doing dishes, and I love to serve through doing dishes. There are dishes to be done all the time, so it is a very practical way to serve.

O stands for organizing. You can see it before and after, which I like. I love organizing, whether a pantry or a lost and found table. It is also practical because things get disorganized all the time.

O stands for openness. Sometimes being open to whatever needs to be done is the best way to serve. Having an open mindset helps you to be more helpful, and you’re more likely to find some way to serve. I also think of it in talking. Sometimes the best way to serve someone else is by opening up to them and sharing what you’re going through.

R stands for reassuring. I love to reassure people in their faith and just in life. When I think of reassuring, I think of encouraging. I love to encourage others in all aspects of life. It is so much fun and can leave a lasting impact.

That’s my acronym! It is beneficial and practical and reminds me to be serving. I don’t know about you, but I want to live my life serving God and others and being near Him. On judgment day, I would love to hear the words “Well done, my good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21). I pray that God will use me and help me to serve in whatever ways I can! To God be all the glory forever!

  1. Grace, I absolutely love this. Sometimes we can really over complicate the simplest of things. This was such a great reminder that serving it’s not just some thing we do, but that’s it’s a lifestyle! We can serve in the simplest of ways, even just by loving each other well. Thank you for this!

  2. Thank you for reminding us to be the hands and feet of Christ. Based on your acronym we, as Christians, need to get out into the world and DO. “D”elight in how God made us as well as each situation He puts us in; be “O”pen to whatever needs to be done to best serve His kingdom. We need to be the salt and light in this world…

  3. I love the acronym Grace. A powerful reminder of how we are to live serving Christ by serving others. You will definitely have opportunities to use your passion for serving in the months to come. Praying for you.
